Empire Cinema

Located in Leigh, Lancashire. The Empire Cinema was opened in 1916. In 1922 it become part of the J.F. Emery Circuit who operated it until 1927.

It was refurbished in 1931, and an Electrochord sound system was installed, later to be replaced by a B.T.H. sound system. It was at time re-named New Empire Cinema and presented pictures and variety performances on its 10 feet deep stage. There were two dressing rooms. By 1934 it had been taken over by the Snape & Ward circuit.

It was equipped to screen 3D films in 1953, but was closed around 1957.
