Located on the corner of Hall Gate and Thorne Road. The South Parade Cinema was opened on 9th December 1920 with Creighton Hale in “The Thirteenth Chair”. The cinema had a restaurant and cafe.

In September 1922 it was re-named Majestic Cinema. In February 1928 it was taken over by the Provincial Cinematograph Theatres(PCT) chain. They were taken over by the Gaumont British Theatres chain in February 1929. It was equipped for sound in 1929, reopening on 29th September 1929 with John Breeden in “Movietone Follies of 1929”.

Gaumont British Theatres closed the Majestic Cinema on 17th June 1933, and it was soon demolished. The new Gaumont Palace Theatre was built on the site, which opened on 3rd September 1934 (it has its own page on Cinema treasures).
