The Camp Grant Liberty Theatre opened on Thursday night, April 4, 1918 to a capacity audience of over 3,000 soldiers with vaudeville and film featured on the opening bill. George J. Breling, formerly manager of the Eastlake Park Theatre at Birmingham AL. had been appointed manager of the new playhouse with the rank of first lieutenant and was in charge of the opening show, assisted by a committee officers.
