This was the first cinema built in the south Cape Town district of Wynberg, and was situated on the corner of Piers Road and Main Road. It was opened by African Theatres in the late-1920’s and had stalls and circle seating for 768. The first sound film was screened here on 21st July 1930.

The Regal Cinema closed in 1964 and in 1965 became the dance venue “Pearly Shells”. Later the name was changed to the “Jack & Jill” dance venue. In the early-1970’s the building was renovated and housed a bank. The building still stands and now houses an commercial interests.
