Windsor Cinema

The Windsor Cinema opened on 23 March 1935 with “Yes, Mr. Brown”, starring Jack Buchanan. It was one of the widest cinemas in the country, at 62ft, and, as a consequence, had an unusually wide screen (about 40ft).

The Windsor Cinema closed in 1970 and spent some time as a carpet warehouse before being pulled down following fire damage. In the late-1990’s the site was occupied by DisableCare Centre.

Architect was Thomas McLean for this venue. Plans were drawn up starting in 1934, being adjusted slightly and approved in 1935.
