Palace Cinema

Located in Methil, Fifeshire on the corner of High Street and Wemyss Place. The Gaiety Palace Cinema was opened around 1914 with 1,109 seats in stalls and circle levels. Around 1920, it was taken over by Scottish Cinemas & Variety Theatres chain, part of the Associated British Cinemas chain, and the seating capacity had been reduced to 1,000 seats It was taken over by an independent operator in 1929 and re-named Palace Cinema. It was equipped with a British Thompson Houston(BTH) sound system. By 1934 it was being booked by A.B. King.

In 1954, the Palace Theatre was taken over by the J.B. Milne chain. They closed the Palace Cinema in the 1970’s, and it was converted into a bingo club. In the 1980’s it was a Granada Bingo Club, which was closed on 8th March 1991.

The building has since been demolished.
