Regal Cinema

Originally opened as the Naval Trust Cinema, in the 1970’s it was re-named Regal Cinerama. The auditorium had a corrugated iron roof. Seating was provided for 406 in the rear section, and 60 in a lower front section which eventually became ‘out of order’. Last known as the Regal Cinema, it was operated by M.B. Developments. The auditorium was cooled by four large fans, and the large screen was covered by diaphanous curtains.

By 1982, a second smaller screen that had been built at right angles to the original auditorium was unused. Since demolished, Regal House now stands on the site.

In 1968/69 I was living for a while in Gibraltar and went many times to the Regal and also I think the then new Queens cinema. Although it was older building, I preferred the Regal. On my last visit to the Rock in 2015 the Queens cinema was being converted into a live theater
