Picture House

Located in Elgin, Morayshire. The Picture House was opened on 20th December 1926 with seating for 900. Seating was provided for 454 in the stalls, 258 in the pit and 188 in the balcony. The proscenium was 24 feet wide. It was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system and screen its first ‘talkie’ “Black Waters” on 16th September 1929. It was soon taken over by A.B. King and became part of the Caledonian Associated Cinemas Ltd. chain.

In 1955 it was equipped with CinemaScope and the proscenium was widened to 29 feet. The Picture House was closed in 1964, and was converted into a bingo club, operating in 2014 as the Carlton Bingo Club.
