Princess Cinema

Located in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. The Princess Cinema was opened on 12th December 1912. It was designed by architect W.H. Barton from Esher, Surrey. Seating was on a single level, apart from two private boxes. In December 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

In 1943 the Princess Cinema was taken over by the S.M. Super Cinemas chain operated by Southan Morris. In 1954 S.M. Super Cinemas were taken over by the Newcastle based Essoldo chain.

A town centre redevelopment cased the Princess Cinema to be compulsorily purchased and it was closed on 24th February 1962 with Jerry Lewis in “The Errand Boy” and “Hey, Let’s Twist”. and it was quickly demolished.
