Savoy Picture House

Located in Farnworth, to the south of Bolton, Lancashire. The Savoy Picture House was opened in the early-1920’s. It had 750 seats. From 1928 it was taken over by the H.D. Moorehouse chain who operated if for the remainder of its life.

Around 1939, it was enlarged to seat 1,138. The proscenium was 33 feet wide. The Savoy Picture House was equipped with CinemaScope in 1955 with “Richard Burton in "The Robe” being the first film to be presented in that format.

The Savoy Picture House was closed in the late-1960’s. It was converted into a snooker hall, but has since been demolished.
