Charlton Cinema

Located in Keynsham near Bristol. The Charlton Cinema was opened in mid-1936 and was built for the Keynsham Picture House Co. Ltd. It was designed for cine-variety and had a 30 feet wide proscenium and a 20 feet deep stage. There were four dressing rooms.

By 1950 it was operated by the Cardiff based Jackson Withers circuit. Lat operated by an independent operator, the Charlton Cinema was closed in 1984 with “Terms of Endearment”. It was converted into a bingo club which closed in 2000. The building stood empty until 2005 when it was demolished and flats were built on the site.

As can be seen from my photograph, Angel Leisure was operating the bingo in the former Charlton at least until April 2000.
