Ollerton Picture House

Located in Ollerton (sometimes refered to as ‘New’ Ollerton) to the north west of Newark-on -Trent, Nottinghamshire. The Picture Palace was opened on 16th January 1928 with Syd Chaplin in “Charlie’s Aunt”. Designed by architect G.O. Abbot, it had seating provided in stalls and circle levels. The screen was at the front entrance end of the building. In late-1930 it was equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system.

A highlight in the history of the cinemas was on 24th February 1939, when film star/actress Gracie Fields appeared on the stage at the Picture Palace to entertain the audience who had come to see her film “Sing as We Go” which was presented as a charity performance.

The Ollerton Picture House was closed around 1960, apparently never having installed CinemaScope. It became a bingo club, named Regal Bingo Club. The building had been demolished by 2015.

This had been demolished and replaced by a Boyes Store and a post office by 2015.
