Downey Theater

A small theater in a small town, which played almost all G-rated movies. A great place to be entertained during our childhoods there.

I grew up in Downey, Idaho and saw many movies at the Downey theatre during the 1940s' & 50s', it was a small movie house probably 40 or 50 seats. Next to the theater was a soda fountain called the confectionary, you could enter from the street or from the theatre lobby. The last movie I saw there was while visiting family in Downey about 1978, the movie was “Tootsie”, pretty racie for a small Mormon farming community. After the theater closed someone opened a 2nd hand store in the lobby. I believe it sits empty today.

I have just returned from a Memorial Day visit to Downey, Idaho. I have a picture of the Downey Theatre to post but, that feature is not working at this time, I will post the picture as soon as I can

Thank you for posting the picture, however; it is not of the Downey theater in Downey, Idaho. I will try to locate the picture that I have and post it here. Incidentally, the Downey theater and the confectionary (soda fountain) have been somewhat refurbished and is open from time to time as a live stage playhouse.
