Eccleshill Picture Palace

Located in Eccleshill, a suburb 2 miles north east of the City centre, a conversion of an 1896 Mechanics Institute. The cinema opened on Monday 2nd October 1911. In 1929 an Orchestrion mechanical organ was installed. The Eccleshill Picture Palace never ran ‘talkies’ and closed in 1931.

The upper floor of the premises were then converted into a ballroom. The lower floor was used for a long time as the local public library. Today the building is used as a Youth and Community Centre.
