It was taken over by the Associated British Cinema(ABC) chain in April 1936. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system and became the Tivoli Cinema with a reduced seating capacity of 1,217. It continued to present cine-variety. It was badly damaged by German bombs on 12th July 1943, and never re-opened.

The remains of the building were demolished in 1955. Today the building on the site houses Jackson, Green & Preston auction house.
