The Elite Theatre was located on the north side of Market Street opposite the end of 7th Street in Downtown San Francisco. It was in operation as a ten-cent movie house around 1916. In January of that year it was taken over by Sam Davis, and in March it switched its policy from daily changes of program to running feature films for from five to seven days.

It is not known how long the Elite Theatre operated, but its building might have lasted long enough to have been demolished for the extension of 7th Street north from Market in the 1970’s.

Another house called the Elite Theatre, located in Presidio Heights and still in operation today as the Vogue Theatre, was operating at the same time as the Market Street Elite Theatre.

1955 photo added credit Allen Ginsburg.

I believe this to be the Elite Theatre, as the jeweler’s address next door is 729 Market Street.
And the Elite was on Market Street at 7th Street.

729 Market St is located between 3rd and 4th Sts. The photo above is of the Hub Theatre which was at 727 Market.
