Forman-Nace Theatres opened the University 1&2 on January 27, 1971. The films were Jack Nicholson in “Five Easy Pieces” and Elliott Gould in “I Love My Wife".

The Forman-Nace Theatre advertisements first appeared in the Arizona Republic in 1962 and displayed a format similar to Pacific Drive-Ins, Los Angeles. The 10 drive-ins were the Acres, Cinema Park, Northern, Nu-View, Oasis, Peso, Phoenix, Pioneer, Sands, and Silver Dollar. The walk-ins were the Bethany, Glen, Kachina, Mesa and University. This arrangement lasted until December of 1971 when the theatres were split up between William Forman’s Southwest Drive-In’s and Harry Nace Theatres.

The University Theatre closed in the mid-1980’s and there are some references in the news that it later became a dollar theatre, which operated into the late-1990’s.
