West Derby Plaza Cinema

Located in the West Derby district in the east of Liverpool. The West Derby Picture House was opened on 30th July 1927 with “The King of the Turf” and “Blue Ribbon”. On 30th April 190 it screened its first ‘talkie’ “Paris” starring Jack Buchanan, after being equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH sound system.

After the installation of CinemaScope in October 1955, it was re-named West Derby Plaza Cinema. The cinema was closed on 5th January 1960 with Peter Sellers in “The Mouse that Roared” and “Juke Box Rhythm”. It was converted into a supermarket.
