Strathclyde Cinema

Located in the Dalmarnock district of Glasgow’s East End. The Strathclyde Cinema opened on 15th August 1928, and was built and operated by Strathclyde Cinemas Ltd. Although it was designed by noted cinema architects Andrew V. Gardner and William R. Glen, it was considered a rather plain building. It was soon equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. In 1937 it was taken over by George Green.

The Strathclyde Cinema was closed on 7th May 1961. It was purchased by Mecca Bingo Clubs and converted into one of their bingo clubs which opened in 1962. Later closed, it was demolished in 1980 and a pub was built on the site, which had been demolished by 2015.
