Lyric Cinema

In the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, the Silver Kinema opened on 15th September 1913.

It was renamed the Lyric Cinema in August 1914, and closed on 28th March 1931, presumably as the installation of sound equipment was seen to be uneconomical.

According to the entry in the Kinematograph Year Book for 1931, the Lyric Cinema was owned by Alex Black of Edinburgh who had taken it over in 1929. “Pictures and Variety” were advertised, utilising a stage that was 20ft deep. There were two dressing rooms.

When I visited, in March 2006, the foyer was home to a branch of Clydesdale Bank (which continues to date [December 2015]). It appeared that the auditorium had been demolished.
