Alfa 1-4

Located on the Leidseplein, across from the Pathe City cinemas, in a building that was built in 1912. The Alfa Cinema was a conversion of a former space used by the Savoy Cabaret from July 1944, which later became a casino. It opened as Alfa 1 & 2 on the 14th June 1979. In April 1982 it was converted into a 4-screen cinema, with seating provided for 255 in screen 1, 162 in screen 2, and 91 seats in screens 3 & 4.

It was operated by Pathe as an art house cinema and regularly used for film festivals, including the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and the Amnesty International Film Festival which was held in September 1996.

The Alfa 1-4 was closed in the early-2000’s and a bank now occupies part of the building.
