The Pavilion Theatre was a variety theatre which opened in 1908. It was a fairly long, low building which stretched from Castle Street to Tower Street. There was a small gallery, but most of the seating was on the orchestra level. Films were shown as part of the variety programme from 1909. The Pavilion Theatre was closed during World War I and went over to other uses. In 2016 the front section of the building still stands, but the stage end of the auditorium has been demolished.
