The Warwick Cinema was built on a site previously occupied by cottages and gardens and was approached along a concreted service road flanked at one end by a walled garden. The name ‘Warwick’ was given by the cinema directors in honour of Warwick Gordon Smith who had managed the Pyramid Cinema, Sale and the Longford Cinema, Stretford.
It was opened in August 1939 with Barbara Stanwyck in “The Mad Miss Manton”. It was initially run by Warwick Cinemas Ltd. and with a fully equipped 36 foot stage and five dressing rooms was also able to offer pantomimes. The seating was single storey, so steeply raked at the rear. By 1947 the Warwick Cinema was among 26 cinemas booked by the George Brian Snape Circuit of Manchester. The date of closure is unknown. The Warwick Cinema was destroyed by fire in the late-1960’s.

the Warwick burnt down in the late 1960s I was working
at the Odeon in Sale at the time ,
Some of their staff came to work at the Odeon where I and
my mother worked for many years
