The 950-seat Palladium Cinema was opened on 24th December 1928 and was operated by and was the Head Office for the Thompson’s Enterprises Ltd. chain. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. In late-1954 it became the first cinema in Middlesbrough to be equipped with CinemaScope when Richard Burton in “The Robe” was screened. The Palladium Cinema was closed in June 1960.
