John was a highly regarded film projectionist who worked for 31 years in various theatres around Brisbane. This photo is believed to have been taken at the Wintergarden theatre in Queen St around 1953. John also worked at the Embassy Fortitude Valley and finally the Elite theatre at Toowong between 1962 and 1978.

In 1986 he was recognised for his significant contribution as an Australian Cinema Pioneer. A wonderful man who helped shape the theatre industry as we know it today. From Peter Earl.

Ian Day says in Lost Brisbane - Wow what a great photo. Johnny was a fantastic gentleman I worked with him in the Bio Box at the Wintergarden in Queen Street along with Norm Pelling and Keith Smith. Johnny was lucky enough to marry one of the Wintergardens beautiful usherettes Joan. John later moved up to the Norline Drive In in Townsville and I to the Stardust Drive In in Ayr. Happy times.
