Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre operated from 1913, likely on two 20-year leases. The theatre was located in the Pavey Building and was converted from the Katz Men’s Store in 1913 by Ben Leland, J. Edmund Smith, and R.H. Coleman. Robert McClean came in next followed by George Reeves. The final three years were by the Chakeres Theaters Inc. circuit, closing in 1952.

After being empty for a year, the Palace Theatre was gutted and the space converted to offices. The city was served by the Fayette Cinema which closed in 1974 and finally by the CCC Drive-In/Chakeres Drive-In that closed in 1977.
