Open Air Drive-In

The Briggs Open Air Theatre was opened by 1948. It was located on Route 9 and operated by Alfred Boryta of Briggs Open Air Theatres Inc. with a 400 car capacity. It was still open in 1950. In the 1950-1951 edition of Theatre Catalog it was listed with a capacity for 500 cars and the same in 1952 when it was operated by Edgar Briggs, and re-named Open Air Drive-In. It had closed by 1953.

This appears to be a very early DI and wasn’t there long. I don’t see it on any of the Topographical Maps, but the outline/ramps are visible in the 1959 and 1960 Historic Aerials, but it’s obvious the drive in is no longer functioning at that point. By 1971 there isn’t any hint that a Drive-In used to be there.

I think the site is now a golf course?

It’s private property with a home and pool. There is no trace, not even a hint of ramps remaining.
