Light Cinemas Thetford

In Thetford, Norfolk, the Light Cinemas opened on Friday 2nd December 2016 with “Sully”, starring Tom Hanks, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, starring Eddie Redmayne and Ezra Miller, and the animated fantasy “Moana”. It is situated in a small riverside development just off the town centre that also includes a Travelodge hotel that has already opened and a Grand Central bar and grill that, in early-December 2016, was announced as “Coming Soon”.

This is the first non-multiplex opened by the Light Cinemas circuit. Seating capacities are: Screen 1: 91; Screen 2: 85 and Screen 3: 75. One of the circuit’s trademarks, the Green Room fully licensed cafĂ©/bar, is on site, but another trademark, the multi-coloured decoration in the auditoriums, is absent. However, I did like the posters in the Green Room for cheesy 1950’s sci-fi and horror films!

Visitors to the cinema who are also fans of the classic TV comedy series “Dad’s Army” will no doubt be delighted with the statue of the show’s Captain Mainwaring that was placed in June 2010 on a bench on a green area that is now between the cinema and the river. Much of the location filming for “Dad’s Army” took place not far from the town and there is a Dad’s Army Museum in the town.
