According to the Monahans News, the Pen-Ell Theatre was opened by T.A. Pence in the fall of 1932 and then sold to Mr. and Mrs. Lester Dollison in 1934. Renamed the Texas Theatre, it reopened on March 16, 1934, with James Cagney in “Jimmy the Gent".

In August 1935 the Dollisons sold the theatre to Oskar Korn’s OK Theatres, which operated 12 locations in Texas. The Monahans News noted that the Palace Theatre, built in 1937 by OK Theatres, adjoined the Texas Theatre.

The Texas Theatre last appeared in Film Daily Year Book 1946, about a year before the new Texan Theatre opened.
