Empire Cinema Westhaughton 1954

Located in the north of the city. The Empire Theatre was opened by Dewhurst & Dewhurst as a music hall on 1st April 1911. It was designed by architectural firm T. Smith & Son. Within a month of opening it was screening films as part of the programme. All seating was on a single floor. By 1932 it was the Empire Cinema and had been equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system. Alterations had been carried out by architectural firm Butterworth & Duncan.

The Empire Cinema was closed in January 1956.
