Silver City Cinema 49 Oxide Street, Broken Hill, NSW

Built on the site of Johnsons Indoor/Outdoor Theatre (1915), later Century/New Centrury Theatre until 1964 when it was destroyed by fire (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

The Silver City Cinema opened on 14th September 1967. Originally a single screen cinema with 840 seats, it was operated by the Snider & Dean Theatres chain.

Johnson’s Theatre(indoor and outdoor) opened on 23/6/1915. Johnson’s Theatre had 1500 seats(indoor), 1067 seats(outdoor), Name changed to Century on 16/4/1955 with “Caine Mutiny”. Destroyed by fire in 1964. Rebuilt as Silver City Cinema opening on 14/9/1967. Silver City Cinemas has 536 seats.
