Located in the seaside town of Cleethorpes, north-east Lincolnshire on Victoria Terrace which no longer exists. The Theatre Royal was opened in 1921 and was built on the site of the Royal Kinema Palace which was destroyed by fire on 20th August 1919 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The corner building was adjacent to Cleethorpes Railway Station. It had a 40ft wide proscenium, a 29ft deep stage and dressing rooms. There was also a café/restaurant for the convenience of its patrons and also a dance hall. In late-1929/early-1930 it was taken over by Lou Morris who installed a Western Electric(WE) sound system and it became a cinema. By 1932 it had been taken over by an independent operator, operating as the Royal Cinema. It was closed in 1962 and was demolished.

A bowling alley was built on the site which closed in the 1970’s. It was taken over by Bunny Newton, known as ‘Bunny’s Place’ it was equipped with a stage and many famous artists appeared here. It was burnt down in the 1980’s, but the lower part of the building was restored and became a Clifton Bingo Club. This closed in 2005 and following a fire it was demolished by 2012. The vacant site was awaiting development in 2018.
