S.L. Patterson launched the 240-seat silent film theatre, “Patterson’s Theatre” in Landisburg, Pennsylvania. In 1923, he changed the name to the Shadowland Theatre. On June 6, 1930, the theatre was equipped for sound showing, “She Couldn’t Say No” starring Winnie Lightner & Chester Morris.

In June of 1939, banks teller Kenneth Rice took over the theatre renaming it the Yankee Theatre. On December 16, 1954, the theatre announced its closure with a reopening in 1955. However, that appears to have not materialized and the theatre became an antique store that sold off pieces of the theatre operation, itself.
