New Prince's Theatre

The St. Georges Hall was built in the 1870’s as an opera house. In the 1880’s it was redesigned by architects Humphreys & Bradley and was re-named Prince’s Theatre. It began screening films in the early-1900’s. Around 1914 improvements were made as it was operated by the Prince’s Cinema Co., presenting films on the screen and variety on the stage. Still known as the Prince’s Theatre in 1927, by 1934 it had been re-named New Prince’s Theatre and had been equipped with a Western Electrc(WE) sound system.

The New Prince’s Theatre was closed around 1955 and was put up ‘For Sale’. It was converted into a supermarket. In 2018 it is being used as an HMV music & dvd store.
