The independently owned Garrison Cinemas opened in the Fort Malden Mall on March 27, 1981. The twin closed on March 31, 1984. It later reopened, first as the Bijou Cinemas and then as the Fort Malden Cinemas, but was never able to attract sufficient business to remain financially viable.

After closing for the last time in the late-1980’s, the theater was converted into a bingo hall, which was later replaced by a clinic. The shopping center was re-branded as White Woods Mall, but finally succumbed to the wreckers in 2006. The site of the mall has become the location of a Wal-Mart store.
