County Cinema

Located in Omagh, County Tyrone. The County Cinema was opened in 1940 with a special performance of “Cardinal Richelieu” starring George Arlis. The first public performance was Ralph Richardson in “The Four Feathers”. It was operated by Charles H. Donaghy who also operated the towns' Picture House and Star Kinema. It had a narrow entrance with the auditorium reached via a long corridor. It was equipped with a RCA sound system. It had a 38ft wide proscenium. There was a stage, which was used from the late-1950’s when artists such as commedian Frank Carson and pop singer Billy Fury appeared.

The County Cinema was closed in June 1973 with James Olson in “The Andromeda Strain”. The cinema has been demolished and a Supervalu supermarket now stands on the site.
