The first public performance was Ralph Richardson in “The Four Feathers”. It was operated by Charles H. Donaghy who also operated the towns' Picture House and Star Kinema. It had a narrow entrance with the auditorium reached via a long corridor. It was equipped with a RCA sound system. It had a 38ft wide proscenium. There was a stage, which was used from the late-1950’s when artists such as commedian Frank Carson and pop singer Billy Fury appeared.
