Luxor Cinema as the Luxor Club

Located in the Hulme district to the south of the city centre. The Luxor Cinema was built by the J.F. Emery Circuit on the site of their demolished Bijou New Cinema (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Luxor Cinema opened in late-1937. It had a 17ft wide proscenium and was equipped with a British Thomson-Huston(BTH) sound system.

The Luxor Cinema was closed on 20th June 1959 with Arthur Askey in “I Only Arsked” & Randolph Scott in “Buchanan Rides Alone”.

It became a bingo club for several years, known as the Luxor Club, but has since closed and the building has been demolished and housing built on the site.
