Located in the south of the city centre, not too far from the Eiffel Tower. The Suffren Cinema was opened in 1919. It was designed by architect Jean Manillier in an Art Nouveau style which included a square tower feature over it’s corner entrance. It was remodeled in 1939 in a Streamline Moderne style to the plans of architect L. Grossard with interior decoration by Rene Chanas. The tower feature was now a taller, modern style with a lighting feature and the theatre name of top. Reopening was on 21st June, 1939. Seating was provided for 500, with 100 of those in the balcony. In 1955 the address was given as 70 bis Avenue de Suffren (around the corner). The Suffren Cinema was closed on June 29, 1960 with Curd Jurgens in “I Aim at the Stars”.
