The Strand Theatre was opened on February 22, 1932 by Cranfill H. Cox in downtown Gilmer, his second theatre along with the Crystal Theatre. The theatre closed in 1954 with its seats sold in 1959. But when Cox’s Crystal Theatre burned down in 1965, the Strand Theatre got a second life relaunching on November 25, 1965. The Strand Theatre closed March 1, 1975 with a showing of “Swiss Family Robinson”. The theatre was converted for other retail purposes. In November 2017 it had been named the Strand Building and used as office space for an insurance company. By 2018 it is in use by the Gilmer Cable Television Co.
