The South Side Drive-In launched in Edmonton with space for 550 cars by Western Drive-In Theatres Circuit. The $125,000 theatre launched with the film, “Bad Boy” on August 1, 1950 and a fireworks show afterward.

The theatre operated under the name of the Southside Drive-In under new operators and continued through the entire 1967 season. The land was sold in conjunction with the creation of the long-running Southgate Centre retail complex with the drive-in razed. The last show appears to be a double feature of “Casino Royale” and “The Great Sioux Massacre” on November 11, 1967.
