February 1951: Just Before Opening

The Mustang Drive-In was built in 1950 and owned by Bill Guest. He also operated the indoor located in town. Guest sold the drive-in and the indoor theater to Jerry Meagher about 1954. Meagher remodeled both theaters. The Mustang Drive-In closed in 1956 and the property sold supposedly due to the construction of the Dallas airport.

A slightly closer address is 1180 E Dallas Rd, Grapevine, TX. This marks the spot where the old entrance road once connected on the south side of Dallas Road.

You can see the drive-in still intact in a 1970 aerial, but by 1979 it was totally demolished.

The property changed significantly as well. The old entrance is now long gone and several businesses now occupy the area. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining.

Per a mention in Billboard (August 8, 1953) owner W. W. Guest sold the Mustang to John Jennings. The Mustang evidently closed permanently at the end of 1956, although the site remained for more than a decade.
