W.E. Crown established the Crown Theatre in 1913 in downtown Electra. In 1919, the theatre was operated by R.G. Sykes who enlisted the townspeople in creating the new Grand Theatre which he also operated.
The Crown Theatre converted to sound but burned down in a fire that claimed both it and the Jefferson Hotel on July 10, 1935 hours after the final show the previous night. The fire had originated in a neighboring candy kitchen and the theatre was a total loss.
