Skyline Drive-In

On October 29, 1955, Boxoffice reported, “MOSES LAKE, WASH. - The new Skyline Drive-In Theatre here has been opened with Pat Tappan, former Wenatchee theatreman, and his family as owner-managers. The theatre is located three miles northwest of town”.

The 1960 Motion Picture Almanac listed Moses Lake’s Skyline with a capacity of 450 cars, owner Pat Tappan.

Found It!

The drive-in was located at Broad St NE & Roberts Place Northeast, Moses Lake, WA. Although it does fit the location as described, it didn’t not appear on any topo map prior to 1978 topo map. Although that does not mean it didn’t exist back in 1955.

Today, you can clearly see the outline, ramps, and foundation of the concession stand/projection booth.

I did find another drive-in on a 1960 topo map located at 1000 WA-17, Moses Lake, WA which is a mile southeast of the town.

Today there is no trace remaining as a few businesses occupy the site.

This drive in was located just outside of the main gate to Larson Air Force Base which closed in 1966. Airmen on duty at the main gate would have had a view of the screen about 100 yards away. The theater would have been under final approach for B-52 bombers from the SAC base. It is an empty field (with many rattlesnakes!) at present. Foundation of the snack bar building is still there.

A closer address is 4497 Roberts Pl NE, Moses Lake, WA.

Google Maps added the address which puts it right in the middle of the property.
