Metropol Filmtheater

Located in the Stuttgart city centre district of Stuttgart-Mitte. The single screen Palast Lichtspiele was opened on 2nd November 1923 and was operated by Fruh, Daub & Munchner Lichtspiel-Kunst Aktiengesellschaft. In 1926 it was re-named Ufa-Palast and was operated by Schwabische Urania/Ufa. In 1944 it was closed due to wartime conditions.

The family Metzler re-opened the cinema in 1949 and it was re-named Metropol-Palast. In 1960 it was re-named again as the Palast Lichtspiele and was operated by Palast Lichtspiele Aktiengesellschaft. In 1978 the Kammer Lichtspiele took over and in 1983 it was operated by Palast Betriebe Schmidt & Thiele

In 2000 it was re-named Metropol Filmtheater and was operated by Filmtheaterbetriebe Mertz. They added two more screens. The 3-screen cinema now seats 375, 237 & 90. It was closed in March 202 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was briefly reopened but on on 31st December 2020 the closure became permanent.
