The Europa Filmtheater was opened in 1959 and was operated by Friedl Colm Planie Lichtspiel GmbH. The architects were Werner Gabriel & Hans Kieser. Later the cinema was re-named Europa Downtown and it screened movies in their original English versions. It was twinned in 1997.
In 2004 the cinema was closed.
