Because regular movie theaters are currently (May 2020) closed because of the Covid-19 Pandemic lockdown, the minor league baseball team Madison Mallards was just given the approval to open a drive in movie theater on their baseball field. The Duck Pond Drive-In will be the first to open in Dane County.
Opening Night for the Duck Pond Drive-In will be Wednesday, May 20 and will feature Aladdin (2019). The first instalment of the series will run from May 20 through May 26 and movies will range from family-friendly to action-packed, offering something for everyone. Movies will be shown on the team’s video board and audio will be sent via FM transmitter, so that fans can enjoy sound right in their vehicle.
Initially, a simple menu of pre-packaged classics like popcorn and candy, along with a variety of canned beer, wine, and Pepsi products will be available for touchless purchasing on-site. No cash transactions will be accepted. A more extensive menu of food options may be available for future showings. There will be no carry-ins allowed into the ballpark. Tickets are limited and are for sale on a per-car basis for $40, in advance of the show only. The ballpark will be limited to about 100 vehicles per show. It was closed in September 2022.

Closed now due to the winding down of the pandemic……
Calling this a theater is a bit of stretch– it never really had regular showtimes, but just weekly events playing classic movies.. price was relatively expensive too, for a movie projected on a jumbotron– significantly smaller and further away than a traditional screen.
Would not be surprised if they did this again on occasion in the future.
