The Neues Lichtspieltheater was opened in 1929, with 1,600-seats. In 1930 it was re-named Luxor Palast and was operated by Luxor Palast Theater GmbH. In 1931 it was equipped with a Tobis sound system. The cinema survived any damage during World War II.

In 1949 it was taken over by the Bezriksfilmdirekion Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1955 it was converted into a 10-screen multiplex cinema and operated by Kieft & Kieft.

The Cinestar Luxor was closed in 2011. Later it was converted into the Veranstaltungs und Kongresszentrum Luxor.
