The Cineac was opened in 1938 with 568-seats as a single screen cinema. It was a luxuriously equipped cinema. In 1976 it was re-named Les Melies and screened art-house movies in their original language versions. In 1978 three more screens were added.
In 2000 two multiplex cinemas were opened in Strasbourg resulting in the closure of Les Melies on 5th July 2000. It was demolished and later a building housing a sports store was at this site.
