City Cine

Located on the top floor of the Galeria Tonsa shopping centre. The Cine City was opened in 1960. On May 23, 1963 it became a 3-strip Cinerama theatre. Seating was provided for 2,400 in orchestra and balcony levels. The 146 degree curved screen measured 79ft x 30ft. From 18th November 1966 it went over to screening 70mm films. From 12th July 1967 until 22nd October 1967 3-strip Cinerama films were screened again, and it then went back to screening 70mm films.

It closed in the 1980’s and has been abandoned, now having holes in the ceiling/roof allowing pigeons to infest the place and the floor is sinking.
