The 1950 Film Daily Year Book included the 324-seat El Cortez Theatre under Ranchos de Taos, a census-designated place on the outskirts of Taos.
On April 8, 1950, Boxoffice reported that Floyd Buetler and Jack Brandenberg had purchased the El Cortez Theatre from John Merhage and John Fidel. It was still open in 1957.
